Today I happend to come across a very unique and innovative scavenger hunt idea that not only entertains but also provides a service back to the community. I a nut shell, the Third Level Crisis Intervention Center of Traverse City, Northern Michigan has decided to run a hunt that will see participants answer questions that homeless youth face on a daily basis.
The Scavenger Hunt will be help outdoors where each participant or team will be give a list of things like “find out where a homeless person can take a shower”. Each item will have a point value and in the end, the points are tallied and a winner will be awarded. Along with the hunt is an opportunity to raise money and a prize will be rewarded to the participant/team who gets the most.
Such a unique idea this is. Just goes to show that there are plenty of scavenger hunt ideas and some can be very worthy and more rewarding than winning the hunt.

Well Fox and the Simpson’s have certainly put on a winner for their 20th anniversary this year. They have decided to do a good old Scavenger Hunt to help celebrate this remarkable milestone they have reached. To pull this off, Fox have gone all out and stuffed Simpson’s characters all over other prime time shows. And it may not just be the cameo appearances, there are rumours of merchandising showing up in some of the shows.
Could this be the future of scavenger hunt ideas?
Nowadays with access to You Tube, Flicka and the like, it makes for interesting scenes for scavenger hunts, particularly on the internet. Imagine a picture hunt on a service like Flicka where you search for certain keywords then need to find certain photos or drawings. Technology meets Scavenger Hunts – Cool Scavenger Hunt Ideas
Have you seen it yet? KidRock, a New York Kids Toy and Fashion company is running a scavenger hunt with a bit of a twist. They have taken the hugely popular QR code (a type of barcode) format that can be read with the use of a free reader loaded onto your mobile and placed them around New York City. For evey QR Code (or Dunny code as they like to call ‘em) you find your collection of Virtual Dunnys Grow.

Now this does just show you how easy it is to come up with Scavenger Hunt Ideas. Although QR Codes may be a little bit out of reach for you to create, how about a Photo Scavenger Hunt. Every mobile camera in the last 5 years have come with one. I bet anyone you invite to a hunt would have one too. Here’s a few easy steps for you to take to get you hunt underway.
- List a few things around town that people can take photos of. Get creative here. Maybe use things like Buildings or street signs.
- Go to Google Maps and mark the position of each item on the map.
- Write a simple clue for each item and link it to the relevant location on the map.
- Create a docuemnt with the map and clues on it and hand it out.
Playing the Internet Scavenger Hunt
An internet scavenger hunt works just like any other scavenger hunt, except that it involves the use of computers and, of course, the internet. First, you need a list of things your scavenger hunters will look for. Using the computer, they will need to complete these things. The fastest to do so wins.

The Bachelorette Scavenger Hunt List
Your friend is getting married and you have no clue as to what type of fun activity you can do on her bachelorette party. A bachelorette scavenger hunt could be just what you need.
Having the bride-to-be play a bachelorette scavenger hunt just adds up to the party’s fun. To do this, you first need to prepare a list of things for the bride-to-be. This list may contain items that the bride-to-be will need to look for or tasks she needs to do. These can be anything under the sun, as long as they are fun, clean and advisably related to the event just around the corner.

Acting Out the Photo Scavenger Hunt List
A different way of playing a photo scavenger hunt is by listing a set of acting tasks. Instead of taking pictures of objects you can have your hunters act out everything that is written in the list and take a picture of it with their cameras.
Movie scenes are a good example. You can use famous lines from movies and have the players act them out using their own interpretation. One for example is a line from the movie Spiderman: “With great power comes great responsibility”. You will surely have several different interpretations of this particular movie line at the end of the photo scavenger hunt.
To have more options and to be more fun, this photo scavenger hunt is best done in groups of three to six. As for the interpretation, anything goes. Since the goal of the photo scavenger hunt is for the players to have fun, they can fool around while doing the acting, just as long as they are still interpreting the lines.
A time limit should be set for completing the list. When the time runs out, the teams will have to meet and turn up their photos which could be printed out or viewed directly from the digital camera LCD. Winners will then be determined. Special acting awards should also be given to outstanding or amusing poses.
Ideas for Adult Scavenger Hunts
Scavenger hunts are not exclusively for kids. There is a so called adult scavenger hunt that can be played by couples, middle-aged people and even players who feel too mature to play kid scavenger hunts regardless of their age. These can be technical, scientific or anything any adult player would appreciate. Making the scavenger hunt more physical may also be done, depending on the players. Preparing the right kind of list is the only key to getting a good adult scavenger hunt going.
The use of GPS or Global Positioning System to search around for items is also appealing to adults. A scavenger hunt that involves this type of modern technology is definitely something any adult would want to take part in.
